SUMMARY:Smart Systems Integration 2019
DESCRIPTION:International Conference and Exhibition on Integration Issues of Miniaturized Systems \nSSI2019 brings together experts in smart systems and their applications from all over Europe. The international conference and exhibition will be taking place in Barcelona from 10-11 April 2019.\nAn EnABLES paper prepared by partners will be presented by Mike Hayes at the ‘Success stories/EU projects’ session. This paper provides an overview of the reasons why EnABLES is needed\, particularly for enabling researchers address key challenges such as extending battery life of wireless IoT edge devices\, and\, where possible\, eliminating the need for battery replacement. The ultimate goal of EnABLES is to create a ‘starting community’ to foster collaborations to address these challenges and opportunities & accelerate technology development.\nThe 2 primary approaches used in EnABLES are outlined: \n\nA transnational access (TA) and virtual access (VA) program open to all external stakeholders to do free-of-charge feasibility studies leveraging from the facilities and expertise of EnABLES partners.\nJoint Research Activities (JRAs) between partners guided by needs and opportunities captured during the project life.\n\nSimulations and data libraries are retained in an open access repository with an emphasis on creating standardized and interoperable parts and understanding their system level behaviour. SSI is closely affiliated with EPoSS and there will also be 2 EPoSS special sessions at the event.

DESCRIPTION:EnABLES co-ordinator Mike Hayes will co-chair along with Brian Zahnstecher (PowerRox) the PSMA energy harvesting industry session at APEC2019 in Anaheim\, CA on 20th March.\nAPEC is the world’s largest annual power electronics industry conference attracting in excess of 5\,000 participants and organised by industry association PSMA and IEEE PELS (power electronics society).\nIn addition to 6 presentations from multi-nationals (UTRC\, ST Micro\, Tektronix)\, academics (BJUT Beijing) and SME leaders (PowerRox\, IoTissimo\, Silent Sensors) in ‘power IoT’ there will be a series of real life energy harvesting/power IoT demos on display as well as an opportunity for participants to learn more about EnABLES and sign up for newsletter\, transnational access\, etc. EnABLES also get honourable mention as a leader in developing the ‘Power IoT ecosystem’ by building a community of stakeholders\, providing open access to technology\, expertise and infrastructure from 11 leading EU research institutes as well as providing seed funding to do free of charge feasibility studies.
